LG to unveil 5 budget handsets at CES 2017
LG Electronics will unveil five new budget smartphones at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 next month, the world’s seventh-largest smartphone provider said.
The move comes as LG Electronics aims at strengthening its budget handset portfolio to expand its customer base globally, while its flagship models struggling against top-tier competitors like Samsung Electronics and Apple as well as emerging Chinese brands such as Huawei, Oppo and Vivo.
“Applying convenient features of our premium handsets to the K series and the Stylus 3, we have concentrated on expanding the user experience to more customers,” LG Electronics Mobile Communications Division President Cho Juno said in a statement. “With the convenient features that have drawn favorable reviews from users, we will continue to provide extra value through budget models.”
LG Electronics said it will showcase the K10, K8, K4 and K3 at the global electronics fair, which feature a high-performance camera and features that help users take selfies more easily.
The K10, which is the highest-tier model of the four new devices, is the first among the budget K series to offer fingerprint recognition. It has a 5-megapixel front camera with a 120-degree wide-angle lens, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5.3-inch high-definition “In-Cell” touch display.
The K3, which is the smallest of the four, has a 4.5-inch display, a 2-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera.
The Stylus 3 is a handset with a digital pen like Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note series. Its digital pen has a tip with only 1.8mm diameter, which is 40 percent finer than that of its previous model. This improvement will provide a more realistic handwriting experience, according to LG Electronics.
The Stylus 3 also supports new features such as automatic pop-up memo, instant memo and loss protection.
All five new handsets have detachable batteries and support external memory card storage. The K10, K8 and Stylus 3 run on the Google Android 7.0 Nougat operating system while the cheaper K4 and K3 have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow system.
LG Electronics did not disclose the prices of the five new devices.
