A 3D-Printed Sneaker

An essential part of the BOA Fit System is rapid prototyping, which gives the Colorado-based company the ability to speed up the process and allow for testing at a much earlier stage. BOA is known for its dial fastener system and it has been revolutionized thanks to a 3D Systems Figure 4 standalone printer.

The BOA Fit System is used on everything from snowboard boots to sports shoes and medical braces and it gives wearers the ability to customize their fit beyond what normal laces can offer. The three-part system incorporates a micro-adjustable dial, strong lightweight laces and low-friction lace guides.

By being able to put early-stage prototypes through real-world challenges, the company gets a much better understanding of the concepts that will hold up or need refinement.
