The ‘Shoes with an Expiration Date’ by Laura Muth

The ‘Shoes with an Expiration Date’ have been designed by Laura Muth as a decidedly fashionable and eco-friendly footwear style that would provide wearers with a way to avoid synthetic material alternatives on the market.

The prototype modular sneakers are crafted entirely using compostable materials including a sole that is molded with latex extract from dandelion root, sawdust, straw and natural dyes. The sock-like main body is held in place on the sole with a woven hemp and cellulose felt frame that eliminates the need for glues.

The ‘Shoes with an Expiration Date’ have an unexpectedly rustic yet modern aesthetic that would likely provide limited use in their current iteration, but help to identify alternative design methods that shift us away from plastics.
