This Smart Saddle Offers Feedback on Riding

This smart saddle has been created as an experimental piece of equestrian equipment that gives horseback riding athletes with a glimpse into the potential future of what the sport could incorporate.

The saddle is equipped with a series of self-powered sensors that make use of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) to maintain connectivity at all times through the riding experience.

The saddle is intended to be positioned onto a horse and would capture data related to form, while also offering detection technology that could wirelessly transmit an alert to those nearby to send help.

The smart saddle is presently in prototype form, and is being developed by a team of scientists at the Inner Mongolia University of Technology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
