This Helmet is Equipped With An Auto-Inflating Airbag System

Swedish automotive safety systems company Autoliv has collaborated with protective apparel manufacturer POC to go about developing an innovative and high-tech bicycle helmet prototype that is fitted with an airbag, which could potentially save the life of the wearer or at the very least, significantly mitigate damage in the event of an accident.

This particular bicycle helmet is equipped with sensors that are capable of detecting the motions and movements associated with falls, and a control unit that automatically inflates the embedded airbag.

The airbag system is capable of achieving a pressure of 8.7 psi and protecting the top and sides of the head. Whilst the airbag absorbs the initial impact of a fall, the helmet provides further protection through a foam padding.

Whilst this bicycle helmet is not yet available commercially, it appears to offer massive promise as a life-saving innovation as well as a product that will appeal to consumers.
