LG Electronics has added a new member to its MiniBeam family of portable projectors that can present images on the equivalent of a 100-inch screen from just 38cm away.

That distance is just one-tenth that required with conventional projection systems and makes the mirror-based projector perfect for small rooms and situations where people moving around might otherwise block the screen.

The MiniBeam PF 1000U is about the size of a 2-liter beverage container and weighs just 1.9kg for easy portability. It can connect with smartphones and computers via a cable or wirelessly, and it can also project content from a USB flash drive.

The South Korean electronics giant has released the MiniBeam PF 1000U in its domestic market at a price of roughly 1.59 million won ($1,342) and will later market the projector in North America, Central and South America, and Europe.
