Aisan Technology Co Ltd is developing a system that creates 3D maps by using a drone.
A drone equipped with cameras, 3D laser scanner, etc is used to collect data necessary for creating maps in the sky. The system is expected to be used in places where it is difficult to use a vehicle for measurement. The company plans to start a verification test in November in Aichi Prefecture.
Aisan is also considering selling a developed drone to map vendors and land survey companies.
The prototype is equipped with Sony Corp’s camera, Velodyne Inc’s laser scanner, positioning system using a quasi-zenith satellite, etc. It can be easily used for creating maps of, for example, narrow paths on which cars cannot easily pass but two-wheeled vehicles and bicycles can.
