JR East Introduces ‘Zero Energy’ Train Station in Japan
The Nagano branch of East Japan Railway Co (JR East) built a new station building of Shinano-Matsukawa Station (a train station in Matsukawa-mura, Nagano Prefecture) and started operation.
JR East aims to use the building as a “zero energy station” by reducing its net energy consumption to zero. The train station is located on the Oito Line connecting Matsumoto Station and Minami-Otari Station.
The station building is a wooden flat building that uses Japanese cypress produced in the prefecture.
