LG Uplus boasts of better VR content than its rivals
With the South Korea’s three mobile carriers competing fiercely to secure more subscribers to their 5G network services, LG Uplus displayed its confidence in the quality of its virtual reality (VR) content, claiming it is the best available.
The third-largest mobile carrier held a blind test comparing the VR quality of SK Telecom, KT and itself at Starfield Hanam shopping mall in Gyeonggi Province.
Mobile carriers have regarded VR contents as key bait for attracting more consumers to their 5G services because the super-fast network with low latency has enabled them to provide an enhanced immersive VR experience.
At a promotional booth for the company’s 5G service, the blind test welcomed participants to compare the quality difference in three types of VR content.
Participants also voted on which one they preferred and LG Uplus won the majority of the votes.
A participant said LG Uplus had the best quality VR content among the three carriers.
“Before I joined the blind test, I just thought there would be no difference among them. But I enjoyed the best immersive video experience with the VR of LG Uplus,” the participant said adding she voted for LG Uplus.
LG Uplus has been holding blind tests at the shopping mall since June 4. As of Wednesday, 75,000 visitors have visited the company’s promotional booth and experienced the differences of its VR content.
“We decided to come up with the blind test to show how exceptional its VR service is compared to those provided by SK Telecom and KT,” an official of the company said.
The mobile carrier has been moving into the 5G-based VR service aggressively. It currently has been offering various kinds of VR content including live performances of K-pop idols. It added it will expand its VR offerings to 1,500 by the end of 2019.
