Fujitsu develops GaN-based AC adapter for smartphones

Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd has developed an AC adapter for smartphones by using a GaN power device.

The output, volume and power efficiency of the adapter are 12W, 15.6cc and 87%, respectively. It supports rapid charging and enables to shorten charging time to about one-third, compared with conventional AC adapters.

Fujitsu Laboratories said it aims to commercialize the technologies used for the new AC adapter within fiscal 2017.

The GaN power device employed for the AC adapter is a transistor having the “HEMT structure” and has a withstand voltage of 60V.
